The healing power of fluff! A collection of “cat cafes” you should visit in Tokyo

So relaxed

Meow. Purr.

So cute… I can’t stand it (haha).

For those who look at this picture and think it’s cute, but cute isn’t the right word! To those who think this level of cute should be “illegal”! Yes! Cat cuteness breaks all rules.

As you can find cats anywhere, they are not such a rare sight, but there is a surprising amount of people living in the city who cannot have a cat of their own.

At “cat cafes” you can appreciate them not as “stray cats”, but as “house cats”. Did you know this is a pretty rare thing?

The economic effect called “catnomics” has become a popular topic, the most surprising being the sum! About 2 trillion 316.2 billion yen!

This cannot be explained solely by time and medical expenses being higher compared to dogs, the effects of an aging society, or that the popularity of cats has simply increased, but surprisingly deeper reasons come into play.

Cats are good for mental health and are found to lower the risk of heart attacks. The frequency of their purr is also said to heal various illnesses.

We got a little off track, but now starts the real topic!

Recently cat cafes have opened in different locations throughout America and Europe, but this is the founding country! I’m going to introduce the best and cutest cat cafes! A Tokyo cat café tour that can only be experienced in Japan!

*Cats are sensitive. Please make sure to follow the rules of each cat café.

“MoCHA” a place to get away from the city bustle

This chain is spread throughout city centers such as Shibuya, Harajuku, Ikebukuro, Akihabara, Shinsaibashi in Osaka, etc.

The inside of this shop is so fashionable, you may find yourself thinking, is this really a cat café?

This cafe has around 15 to 20 cats to meet.

They look at you from above as you lounge around.

Some do cosplay like this….

You will sigh at their cuteness. It’s unbearable!!

The easy access is part of this shop’s appeal.

Be aware that from 2 pm to 5 pm is the busiest time.

“Nennekoya”, a hidden café with moody felines

This is a local cat café opened in someone’s house located in Tokyo’s lower town of Yanesen.

The cats who live there greet the customers.

However these cats have temperamental personalities, so whether or not they tend to the customers depends on their mood.

There may be times when there are no cats at all (haha).

You won’t stop smiling at these relaxed cats.

The menu offers items from pretty heavy, curry stew to cake sets all served in a cat character representation.

Here you can also enjoy the local atmosphere.

This shop plans to close in 2019, so please visit soon!

Tea time at “Temari no Ouchi” in a mysterious cat forest

The concept behind this café is that the cats built this house themselves and live here freely.

The interior of this café makes it stand out from others!

Excitement rises at the sight of a detailed interior that looks like a Ghibli movie!

Without thinking I muttered I’d like to live here too (haha).

Weekdays it is fairly crowded, so I recommend you make your visit in the earlier hours.

Now I’ll introduce some of the cats.

Temari-chan (female) represents the shop. Her special feature being the markings on her head.

Kinoko-chan (female) is so ugly she’s cute.  Her flat face is so charming!

About 32 cats live here.

They also provide a rich food and drink menu, making it easy to spend a long time here! The atmosphere and food is perfect.

If there’s time, get cat merchandise from “TOKOTOKO ZAKKATEN”!

Here is the cafe store, its concept being that it was opened by Milk (female) a munchkin cat who lives here at “Temari no Ouchi”. If the café is crowded you can kill time here while waiting for a seat.

This is Milk-chan. Her legs are short and too cute!

This time I selected three shops to introduce, was there one you liked best?

Please go play and enjoy the comforting presence of many cats.
