Castle with Seawater Moat at Tamamo Park, Takamatsu

Takamatsu Castle is a castle built along a waterfront of the Seto Island Sea, and the ruins of the castle now remain as a park called the Tamamo Park.

Walking in the vast site of the park with beautiful pine trees, you may feel like you are traveling back to the Edo period.

The unique point of this castle is the moat filled with seawater draw directly from the sea.

This feature can only be seen at this castle in Japan.

In the moat, there are various saltwater fish such as sea breams, flounders, and sometimes puffer fish.

While carp feeding is common in Japan, here you can try sea bream feeding!

It is said that you can make your wish come true if you feed sea breams here.

There stand a few cultural properties in the park, such as Tsukimiyagura, Hiunkaku and Ushitoyagura.

Among them, in Hiunkaku, rent rooms are available for tea ceremonies and office meetings, while it is designated as an Important Cultural Property in Japan.

It is unusual for such traditional buildings to be used as rental space familiar to citizens.

In addition, various events are held in the park, such as cherry-blossom viewing and plant market in spring, and chrysanthemum exhibition in autumn.

Strongly recommended to visit as it’s very close to the Takamatsu Station.
