Mt. Rokko is the name of mountain masses including large and small mountains located in the southeastern part of Hyogo prefecture.
This area which is easily accessible from Osaka and Kobe has been one of the most popular spots in Kansai region.
The best thing about Mt. Rokko is the beautiful scenery from the top of the mountain spreading from Osaka Plain to Wakayama, as well as Kobe.
The night view from the mountain is must-see, as it is counted as one of Japan’s New Three Great Night Scenic Cities.
Fantastic especially in autumn leaves seasons!
Since the area is quite extensive, one day may be insufficient if you try to go through all the main spots.
You should take plenty of time.
Here I’ll introduce the facilities on the top of the mountain.
Rokko Garden Terrace
There are many shops and restaurants here, so you can enjoy the view while eating delicious food.
From the Rokko Garden Terrace, one of the most spectacular scenic spots in Japan, the vast landscape from the Akashi Strait to the Osaka Plain and Kansai International Airport and the “10 million dollar night view” spreads out in front of us. From here you can take great panoramic photos.

There is an observation deck called “Rokko Shidare” as well.
When entering the deck made of cypress wood, the flavor of wood and sunlight flowing down through the wooden frame will comfort you.

Rokko Musical Box Museum
At the Rokko Musical Box Museum, you can enjoy the music with the explanations about history, songs and mechanism of music boxes.
Also, music box making experience is available in which you can make your own music box!

Rokkosan Country House
This is my favorite place.
In the vast ground you can enjoy fishing, putter golf and lawn ski which are very attractive for kids.
In addition, dog park, BBQ place and rose walk are available, so one day is not enough for seeing everything!
Various events are held there as well, so don’t miss it!

Rokko Mountain Ranch
Here you can spend time with various kinds of animals:
Sheep, goats, cows, sheep dogs, horses, pigs, rabbits, ducks etc.
And dairy products made of fresh milk are recommended too!

Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden
Here you can see about 1,500 different seasonal plant blooming in the alpine of the world and Japan.
It is nice to have a cup of tea being surrounded and healed by trees.
