“This is Japanese KAWAII”, the kawaii Monster Café in Harajuku is amazing!

With cutting-edge apparel brands and rows of restaurants, “Harajuku” is one stop you definitely want to make in Tokyo. There are so many places to shop that one day isn’t enough to take it all in.

Also, not just the shops, but pay attention to people’s fashion as well! You may see something interesting!

There is a “very crazy” Harajuku café, starting with young people; it now garners the attention of tourists from overseas. This café is the “KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ”.

This café is produced by the art director, Sebastian Masuda, who worked on the “PONPONPON” music video for the artist, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. He is famous for creating colorful, unique worlds.

Alright, let’s look at the interior!

The shop interior is set inside the stomach of a monster, this is the image character, “Mr. Ten thousand chopsticks”, nicknamed Choppy.

Welcome to KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ!

Masuda’s world opens up from the entrance in a storm of “Oh, my god!”

First there is an entrance fee of 500 yen per person.

It may be surprising for a café to have an entrance fee, but as soon as the doors open it’s understandable. You are welcomed by a spinning cake shaped merry-go-round called “SWEETS GO ROUND” upon entering. Rather than a “café with a loud interior”, it’s more like the gorgeous set of an amusement park.

The vividly colored merry-go-round that draws your eye.

This café’s selling point is its dynamic interior which surpasses our own imagination, divided into 4 eating zones, you can enjoy this experience not once, not twice, but four times!

(1) MUSHROOM DISCO

A large forest made of poisonous mushrooms and alien plants that tower overhead.

(2) MILK STAND

A crazy baby room with rabbit, sheep, and unicorn heads with baby bottles as decoration.

(3) Bar Experiment

The bar counter is covered by a giant jellyfish with menacing lighting.

(4) Mel-Tea ROOM

Macarons, chocolate, and ice cream are all made in pastel colors.

You will have fun no matter what zone you go to!

Next is food!

The colorful menu is a main feature and won’t disappoint. The coloring of the dishes is so striking that you may hear people question, is this really food? (haha)

I often hear the phrase “colorful dining”, but this coloring is extreme.

Sebastian Masuda’s imaginings are personified into food and drink; colorful rainbow pasta, sliced fish, and colorful poison parfait extreme, etc.

It’s too colorful, I can’t imagine what anything tastes like (haha).

They also introduce limited dishes that correspond to Halloween, Christmas, and other events, making it fun to pay a visit every now and then.

A flashy interior and colorful food with a unique display! But it doesn’t end there, it may be just the name, but this is a “monster” café after all.

These iconic girls called, MONSTER GIRLS, liven up the customers and atmosphere of the café.

The show these girls put on is just one way to enjoy this café.

Original goods you can only buy here are available, how about a souvenir?

As you’d expect, a shop with this much attention to detail never gets old no matter how many times you visit.

For those looking for something unusual or who want a new experience, please enjoy Masuda’s world of concentrated Harajuku culture.
