Sakura, or cherry blossom, is a symbol of spring in Japan.
People gather to sakura festivals held all over the country every year.
Cherry blossoms in daytime are of course beautiful, but “yozakura”, which means “night cherry”, are even more gorgeous and attractive.
Here I’m introducing yozakura at Sumida Park, an oasis along the Sumida River.
The park is located on both east and west side of the river, but I’m introducing the west part near Asakusa Station.
The Sumida River flows in front of the park, and you can hear lively voices from cruise boats especially in cherry blossom season.
The Sumida Park is regarded as one of the most popular cherry blossom spots with about 510 cherry trees blooming in a row.
As the Sumida Park Cherry Blossom Festival is held in spring, many people in various age including couples, friends and colleagues visit the park to enjoy hanami(cherry blossoms viewing).
And the most attractive point of the event is the collaboration of the lighting of the cherry trees and Tokyo Sky Tree lighted in pink.
The Sky Tree can been seen from anywhere in Tokyo, but only here there are only few places where you can see it that clearly from bottom to top.
It’s highly recommended as you can feel Tokyo through the typical view of night cherry blossoms and the Sky Tree.
